Joni Eareckson Tada was injured in a 1967 diving accident, which left her a quadriplegic. After rehabilitation, she emerged with new skills and a fresh determination to help others. She founded Joni and Friends in 1979 to provide Christ-centered outreach to special-needs families around the world, including Family Retreats and the delivery of wheelchairs and Bibles to needy disabled persons in developing nations.
