  1. Practical and insightful 5 Star Review

Posted by on 12th Jul 2018

Amy Baker's experience with counseling children, and confidence in the Word of God to do in kids just what He does in adults is clearly demonstrated throughout this lecture. What incredible insight and wisdom God has given her through her practice. Through several case studies she illustrates an approach to counseling kids that is not only realistic, but so rich with Gospel discipleship. She reminds us that the problems kids grapple with, the emotions they feel, the confusions, the weaknesses that encumber them are as common as what encumbers adults. And the solutions of God's Word to His little image bearers is just as potent and needed as for His bigger image bearers. She states, as with any counseling case, 'We are God's ambassador to come alongside someone in a time of need to direct them to the help and the hope of the Ruler of all the universe. My end game is this...to help them have a hope in and love for God which is stirred up in a desire to know and follow Him, and to bring Him glory by loving Him with their whole heart and loving others as they love themselves. The specific problem for which they come to counseling is just the laboratory set up by God to facilitate this process. These individualized labs may have features constructed by nature (biological factors, e.g. autism), nurture (environment, e.g. abuse, divorce)...but it would be a mistake to believe that nature or nurture are controlling issues. They are just the laboratory that God is creating so that we can address what's really important. Both nature and nurture are under the hand of all wise Creator, and in His world He provides everything that we need for life because with Him is the fountain of life.' I trust you will be refreshed by her examples and renewed in your focus to help people, rather young or old, to become all that God intends for them to be as His image bearers!
